The Team


The Coordinator

Susana Calle Yes, indeed, born in Cuenca. Obtained the degree of Master of Arts in England and followed several additional TEFL courses at The University of Cuenca and at the British Council. She devotes her time to teaching English at a high school and at the University of Cuenca (at the School of Economics), to CONCELT and to her fun loving life. In 2004, she went to St. Andrews College in North Caroline, where she taught Spanish and LatinamericanCculture in the Spring Program. Just like the other team members, she loves parties and hiking. She also likes fashionable clothing, poetry, and music. She is a guitar player and her favorite song is "No soy de aquí, ni soy de allá" . She definitely is a woman of the world. She is looking for a new good company. She doesn´t like cooking very much, but knows how to surprise her guests with delicious lazagna.

The Facilitators

Loly

Loly Burbano. Her age doesn´t count either, she is in any case young enough to go around the world. She just arrived from an exchange program in North Carolina where she worked as a Spanish teacher.

Educated and trained as an English teacher by the University of Cuenca and the British Council in Quito. She coordinated the English teachers of Garaicoa high school in Cuenca for several years. She finished a postgraduate course for Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.

Three children. Verónica, a young housekeeper with three kids who runs a French café. Alexandra, graduated as an architect and works in her profession. She has a little girl. Her youngest son being a famous mountain bike champion. He´s a World Champion in BMX. He got this position in Brazil, 2003. He´s married and has a little child. Famous for her culinary talent; however, she has stopped cooking to benefit the English Teachers with the workshops.

Fun-loving woman who enjoys parties as well as teaching English at a high school and at the university (English for Professionals) . She also likes to arrange flowers and to look after her grandchildren, who have increased in number (three now). She doesn´t like male chauvinism at all.

Ana María Calle. She is the youngest in the group. Unfortunately for the team, she is studying a master’s postgraduate course in Ohio which, at the end, will benefit our project.

She studied English Language Teaching in the Faculty of Philosophy in the University of Cuenca. Now she got her master’s degree on Social and Educational Projects She teaches at the University of Cuenca (at the School of Engineering), and is part of CONCELT since October, 2003.

She has just one kid, Pablo as his father, who is 9 years old. She likes to watch good movies and read novels; however, she is too busy with CONCELT and cannot find the time to read now. She exercises once in a while to relax and to change activities. She will be nourishing CONCELT with good ideas from her experience and research in the University of Ohio.

Guillermo Pacheco. He got his bachelor’s in English Language & Literature at the University of Cuenca where he teaches now. He is also doing a master’s in Education and Curriculum development for Secondary & Higher Education. He has been teaching for more than 6 years. He also works at CONCELT, where he has done research on teaching methodology and he has also trained high school teachers.

Currently, he teaches TOEFL, handles the e-mail project with her colleague, Susy, and teaches the long courses, which are designed to train high school teachers.

He spends his time with his wife, Ma. Eliza, working and learning new things from his students. He loves listening to music, watching movies and working out sometimes.

CONCELT´s Initiator

 

 

Marleen Van Balen Born in Leuven, Belgium, on a cold winter day sometime during the sixties. She studied Germanic Languages and later Socio Cultural Anthropology at the Catholic University of Louvain. She has been working as a language teacher and a teacher trainer for ten years now. She spent one third of her life in different countries of Latin America. She coordinated several cooperation projects and worked for different universities. Two children (Anabel and Tomas). Likes hiking and trekking, poetry, yoga, dancing and spaghettis. She dislikes prolonged peace and quiet , bureaucracy and red cabbage. She has returned to Belgium after 4 years of being part of CONCELT, first as the coordinator, then as a technical assistant.


CONCELT´s Former Coordinator

Eulalia Moscoso Born in Cuenca, not during the sixties but close. Married, three children: Fernanda, living in Switzerland. She is studying business there. Diego,married and studying a postgraduation course in Industry Engineering, , and Daniela , 22, writing her final work to graduate as Tourist Guide at the University of Azuay. She studied Languages at the University of Cuenca. She was trained as a teacher trainer at the University of Cuenca; by the British Council in Quito and by the North Mon Language Institute in Cork, Ireland. She lived and studied in France for a year and would love to go back to Europe to continue her training. At present she has already finished a Postdegree course on Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.She has been working as a language teacher for many years, both at a high school (general and business English) and at the University of Cuenca, where she is teaching ESP at the Engineering Faculty. She is also teaching a class of English Composition in the Pananamerican University. She likes hiking, jogging and playing volleyball , she also collects recipes which her housekeeper, undoubtedly one of the best cooks in the world, turns into the most delicious meals. She doesn´t like getting up early and enjoys computing and its problems.
